St Josephs Cathedral
I chose to research the Notre Dame de Paris
Notre Dame de Paris means Our lady of Paris
1163 was when construction began but it wasn't finished until 182 years later in 1345.
You might recognise the Cathedral from a movie called 'The hunchback of Notre Dame' about a hunchback named Quosimoto who is the bell ringer for the cathedral and is just trying to make friends.
The right to vote
It wasn't fair that women weren't allowed to vote until recently. I think its disappointing that they waited for so long to vote and I am happy that they can vote the same as men now because it makes everything fair, also with more people voting the county will be more like a country that everyone wants and not just what the men want.In Flanders Fields.
I like the Flanders Fields poem because it's really easy to get the tune and the words rhyme perfectly
I feel like it is good to live in a chilled out country and thats why they went to war is so we could live how we do today but it is sad to lose lost ones in the war. Many people would have lost their close family to the war but those that did fight for us fought very well. They sacrificed their lives for others and this is one way that we remember that.

Mōrena Leo,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jordan and I'm the Kootuitui (Papakura, South Auckland) cluster manager. It's such a pleasure to view your blog page and to have the opportunity to blog with you this summer!
You've really impressed the entire Summer Learning Journey team with your consistent, thoroughly researched and wonderfully displayed blog posts.
I really appreciate that you've compiled a day's worth of activities in to one blog post; it really does help us in keeping track.
I'll start off with Activity One: St Joseph's Cathedral.
Ka pai for finding a famous Cathedral let alone the Notre Dame de Paris! I had another student from the Toki Pounamu cluster do research on the Notre Dame de Paris, and I was really hoping she had seen the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" — so I'm ecstatic to see that you've included it in your blog post. I love earlier Disney movies; they help reinvigorate my childhood memories.
Have you ever seen the film?
Activity Two: The Right to Vote. Kia Ora Leo, thank you for responding to this activity and whether or not you think it is fair that women in Saudi Arabia weren't allowed to vote until recently. I'm really glad to discover that you're a bit of a young humanitarian! You're completely right— it's not fair, because it doesn't represent equality. We do need to consider the culture in this case, however, and religion is often a huge player when it comes to differences in political matters.
I really appreciate that you’ve outlined that with both men and women voting, it will represent a country based on equal values, not just the values of men!
Do you know anything else about Saudi Arabia?
Bonus Activity: In Flanders Fields.
Kia Ora Leo, thank you for reading the poem In Flanders Fields, and for your articulated opinion! I really like how you mention tune and rhythm; both really important aspects in poetry. You're right, we are so fortunate to live in this day and age where we don't have to worry about the idea of going to war. Our forefathers have sacrificed so much for us to be able to live in peace and harmony. I'm pleased to see that you managed to include photos of you at an exhibition, how relevant!
If you had to go to war, how do you think that would make you feel?
I've really enjoyed reading your blog posts Leo, well done, such an excellent start to 2018!
Keep up the great mahi,
Cheers,
Jordan.
Thanks Jordan.
DeleteI'm glad you like my post. I haven't seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame yet but i want, it sounds like a good movie though.
I'ts Never fair that women sometimes wait 15 years and they still can't vote. I feel like the men that voted for that shouldn't vote for 5 years but i know some religions do have strict rules that they have always followed for century's and it would be hard to change their ways
I wouldn't feel that great at war because I might die in 15 minutes. But I would go if it means everyone in my family stayed alive.
Thanks for reading my post.
bye
from Leo
