Day 3: Its all in the family

The more the merrier?

I wouldn't like to have 8 siblings because then I wouldn't get my own room and it would be hard to sleep with all the noise.  We wouldn't go out as a family as much like to dinner and I wouldn't get paid as much for chores, also the chores I would do would be 8 times bigger like 8 times the amount of dishes and washing and 8 times the rubbish.  It would be hard for my parents to remember everyone's birthdays so they might forget about my birthday.

Some good reasons about having 8 siblings would be that I would always have someone to play board games with and on Christmas and Birthdays I might get 8 times more presents maybe.

My Grandad is the oldest of 15 siblings! I have over 100 cousins! now that's a lot of birthdays... here is a picture of my Grandads side of my family.

  1. Wow. This is really good. It's very Interesting. That's a beautiful big tree that you are standing in front of when you are doing your speech. Can you tell me about places on NZ you have been or other holidays you have been on? Well done Leo

  3. Hi Leo,

Well done on another great Summer Learning Journey post! It's great to see that you're putting a lot of effort into your posts. I like that you've found photos of your family that show your connection to the activity.

I can tell that you've put a lot of thought into your answer; I hadn't even considered the chores, but that is a good point. I guess you could also think about it another way, in that you'd have 8 people to help you? That is a fantastic photo of your grandfather's family. I can't believe you have over 100 cousins; I only have 6. Do you spend Christmas with all of your family? I imagine it would be hard to find somewhere you could all fit.

I was so impressed with your pepeha. That is a huge tree behind you! Where did you film it?

Another lovely photo of you and your sister :) That is very interesting that your sister was the first child born in the South Island this year! My friend also had a baby that day but that was in Auckland.

    Good luck for tomorrow's post!

    Hazel :)

  5. Hi Leo!

Merry Christmas to you and your whole family. I can't believe that you have over 100 cousins. That is incredible!

I have about 20 first cousins, most of whom live in Canada, where I was born and raised. I really miss them at this time of year as they are all gathering together to celebrate the holidays. Fortunately, I am able to call them on Skype so we can still see each other and share some nice time together. Do you get the chance to see your family over the break? Do all of your cousins get together for Christmas?

I have one son (Aronui) who was born in Canada but who is half-Maori and half-Canadian. He's SOOOO excited about Christmas and can't wait to host his whanau here for dinner. He was actually just asking me if he could borrow some gel so that he could gel his hair into a small mohawk for the day. It sounds like he and your step-dad, Andrew, have something in common!

I really hope that you're enjoying the Summer Learning Journey programme and that you have time after Christmas to re-join us again. I know that Hazel just loves your posts. In fact, she messaged us to tell us all about how well you've been doing with your work this summer. We're so proud of you!

Keep up the great work, Leo.

    1. Hi Rachel
I only have 13 coming up to 14 first cousins through my Mum's and my Dad's family Rachel. I only really see them because I haven't met my other cousins since I couldn't remember.

I have every second week off because it's easier since I can't bring my Chromebook to my Dad's though. It's kind of hard to do the summer learning journey with how I have to change every week.

I love the summer Learning Journey though because it's fun and I get to learn about New Zealand! Not everyone gets the opportunity to do go on the journey that some people can do.

We always have Christmas together because it's not a Christmas without family.
      bye
      from Leo
