Day 2: It's all in a days work.

A house or a home?

My house is made of wood with insulation and it has bedrooms, a kitchen, a living rooms, a bathrooms, glass conservatories and a toilet. A wharepuni is a building that has a small door and an open space with no rooms, no toilets, bathrooms or insulation.

This is a modern house
This is a Wharepuni

They both have a roof, wood walls and and a front door.

They also both have a place for family to be together and stay warm.

  The Rules of Engagement

I want to be an inventor when I grow up. Here are some of the things that I would invent to help the military's defence force.

Special Meals

My all time favorite meal is spaghetti and meatballs because it fills me up and i love the taste!

Mum's  Spaghetti and meatballs Recipe

you will need:
400 grams of mince
1 brown onion
1 egg
half a cup of flour
one can of bolognese sauce
one pack of spagghetti
cheese

mix the chopped onions, mince, egg and flour together, roll into balls and fry them until lightly brown.
pour over the can of bolognese sauce and cook until meatballs are cooked through.
meanwhile take spaghetti out and cook in separate pot for 7 minutes.
pour the meatballs and sauce on the spaghetti and add cheese

bon apetit

  1. Hi Leo, another fantastic post!

I liked that you found some more pictures of houses and wharepunis to include in your post. I think that was a great point about both of them having a space for the family to be together. I am looking forward to spending time with my family over Christmas.

I love the picture you made of you as an inventor; I'm going to share that on the Uru Manuka Google+ page so that everyone can see what a great job you did. If I was an inventor, I would want to make a robot that could make my bed for me each morning, but you have thought far beyond that!

YUM! I love spaghetti and meatballs. I agree that it fills you up and tastes great. I usually use a lot of cheese on my pasta. Do you ever help your mum to cook the spaghetti and meatballs?

I look forward to reading more of your posts soon.

    1. Thanks Hazel, I'm also looking forward to spending Christmas with my family as well.

I decided that I would chose to be an inventor when I grow up because it would be hard but if someone sponsored it I could get a lot of money. The other reason that I chose it was because I think that it would be challenging to create something that hasn't been invented.

I chose spaghetti and meatballs out of 2 others, spaghetti bolognese or meatball subs. I also like my spaghetti and meatballs with lots of cheese as well. I haven't helped my Mum cook yet but I might in the future.

    2. Hi Leo,

I think you're right about being an inventor; it would be very rewarding, but also very challenging as you said.

It sounds like you really like spaghetti! I'm sure your mum would appreciate your help cooking the meatballs. I love to cook; my favourite thing to cook is chicken pie.

I hope you have a great summer with your family.

      Hazel :)

  4. Kia Ora Leo,

I’m Dani, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. I normally comment on blogs in the Kaikohekohe cluster ( Northland) but I have been lucky enough to get the chance to visit some blogs in the Uru Manuka cluster!

Wow! It is great to see how much effort you put into your posts. Ka pai! I really like that you have included photos in your blog. I think photos always give your readers a better idea about what you are talking. Have you ever heard the saying, ‘a picture speaks 1000 words?’. I reckon that saying is true, because it was very easy for me to see in the photos some of the similarities and differences that you mentioned.

You have some great invention ideas! I bet my family would love a black out ball on our farm up in Okaihau in Northland. I’m sure dairy farmers would love that invention too! New Zealand is known for our ‘number 8 wire kiwi ingenuity’. Do you know what that saying means?

I will have to try your mum’s spaghetti and meatballs recipe. It sounds like a very easy meatball recipe compared to some of the ones I have made it the past. You will have to say a big thank you to your mum from me for sharing her recipe! I agree with Hazel that meatballs always needs lots of cheese on top!

Keep up the great work! I look forward to reading more of your blogs soon!
